Appointments System

Appointments may be made by telephone 01902 600833 or 01902 366194 during normal opening hours or can be made via the link on the top of the page for the on-line "patient access" service.  All urgent appointment requests are dealt with from 08:00 - 11.30 Monday-Friday (i.e. same day appointments). Please do not tie up the telephone line during this period with non-urgent/routine requests.

Please note not all our appointments are available to book through Patient Access so if you feel you need to be seen sooner please contact the surgery either by phone or in person.

For routine matters you should make your appointment with your regular doctor.  However, your doctor may not always be available and you may have to be seen by one of the other partners. We do not make doctor’s appointments for more than 2 weeks in advance.

All routine health monitoring and check-ups will be undertaken by the practice nurses. Emergency appointments (same day requests) will be screened by the reception staff and justifiable request criteria must be fulfilled. 

Your appointment will be allocated to a GP of our choice but some time you might be offered to see other available doctor.

Please remember an appointment is for one person only - where another member of the family needs to be seen or discussed, another appointment should be made.  The doctors also operate a 1 appointment = 1 problem system, should you have multiple problems, please request a double appointment.  This helps to keep waiting times down and makes best use of GP time.

Extended Practice Opening Hours

Lockstown practice currently provides extended surgery hours as follows:

Monday 07:30 - 08.00   
Tuesday 07.30 - 08:00
Wednesday 07:30 - 08:00
Thursday

07.30 - 08:00

18:30 - 19:30

Friday 07.30 - 8:00

These appointments in the extended hours will be available to patients that find it difficult to attend the surgery at normal times due to work, lifestyle and family commitments etc.  They will not be emergency/same day appointments.

Home Visits

Whilst we encourage our patients to come to the surgery, where we have the proper equipment and facilities available, we do appreciate this is not always possible. In this respect, if you do need a home visit, you can help us by calling reception before 11:30.

You may only request a home visit if you are housebound or are too ill to visit the practice. Your GP will only visit you at home if they think that your medical condition requires it and will also decide how urgently a visit is needed. Please bear this in mind and be prepared to provide suitable details to enable the doctor to schedule house calls

You can also be visited at home by a community nurse if you are referred by your GP. You should also be visited at home by a health visitor if you have recently had a baby or if you are newly registered with a GP and have a child under five years.

Telephone Advice

We are happy to give advice over the telephone. However, if you need to speak to a doctor or nurse it may be necessary to telephone back at a more convenient time.

Cancel an Appointment

It is important that you inform the reception staff if you are unable to attend your appointment, this will allow that appointment to be offered to another patient. If you fail to notify the Practice that you are unable to attend, you will be sent a letter informing you that you have defaulted from your appointment. Persistent defaulters maybe removed from the list.

You can also complete our appointment cancellation notification request form. This can only be used if your appointment has been arranged for more than 24 hours in advance. (excluding weekends and public holidays). You can also text to cancel your appointment.

Text Reminder Service

We have a texting service which allows you to receive confirmation and reminders about your appointments.

To have this service you will need to register by completing a consent form.

Doctors Running Late

We sometimes receive complaints about doctors running late and patients having to wait for their appointments. We appreciate that this is frustrating for everyone involved so please allow us to inform you what you can do to help us, yourselves and other patients.

 Multiple Problems per Appointment

  • This is one of the main reasons for doctors running late.
  • It can cause problems if you bring a long list of problems to a single appointment. Our appointments are in 10 minute slots. Although we will of course never simply cut you off after 10 minutes, it is usually difficult for a doctor to adequately deal with more than 1 problem in a 10 minute slot.
  • Please feel free to book more appointments or when you book, inform the receptionist that you have multiple issues you would like to discuss with the doctor (you do not have to reveal any details) but you can ask for a double appointment.

Patients Arriving Late

  • Please try to arrive on time for all appointments. Please inform us as soon as possible if you wish to cancel your appointment. If you are going to be late, please ring in on your mobile to let us know.
  • It has been agreed by our Patient Representative Group and the surgery that if you arrive late, you will be asked to re-book your appointment.  This will allow those who have arrived on time for their appointment to be seen promptly.

Multiple Patients per Appointment

  • The appointment is only for the person who is booked in for the appointment.  If you ask for other family members, who are not booked in, to be seen at the same time, it will cause everyone after you in the queue to be seen late. Please book a separate appointment for every person who you wish the doctor to see as refusal often offends.
  • Booking one patient per appointment will reduce the likelihood of doctors running late.
  • If appointments are booked in good time you will probably be able to get 2 or 3 appointments one after the other.

Emergencies

  • Due to the nature of our work, occasionally we have unpredictable emergencies which we must deal with urgently. We ask for your patience in these matters and apologise for any inconvenience caused. One day the person with the emergency could be you!
